AUTOMATION UNLIMITED Epoxy Dispense System
Robert DeFelice & Associates was asked to redesign Automation Unlimited's (AU) ED70 epoxy dispense system to reduce manufacturing costs, add ergonomic features and improve sales appeal. AU's system was over-engineered, expensive to manufacture, clumsy to operate and lacked sales appeal even in a factory environment.
Our imaginative, low cost MD100 Dispensing System solutions included (1) redesigned the tubular frame with smaller tubing, (2) replaced the expensive, 1/2" thick, aluminum jig plate, top surface for X-Y table, with an inexpensive Formica laminated table top (80% cost savings), (3) reduced welding and grinding costs by hiding weld joints behind smooth, sleek sheet metal panels and doors that also provided underneath storage for epoxy, (4) integrated a modular panel system above the work surface to accommodate different control devices, and (5) repositioned the operator's controller at 30 degree angle for improved ergonomics and visibility.
"You really gave us a much better design and saved us about 30% over our previous manufacturing costs," said AU's COO.
We provided a complete package of handsome styling, efficient mechanical engineering for the low cost structure and packaging, sheet metal panels and doors, minimum COTS fasteners, and all DFMA documentation and vendor recommendations.
